Percocet

Percocet is prescribed for pain and is effective because Percocet contains acetaminophen and oxycodone. Percocet is only available by prescription due to the nature of oxycodone. The active ingredient in Percocet is oxycodone which is a narcotic analgesic. This makes Percocet an effective pain management prescription because the pain receptors in the brain and spine are effectively blocked by the drug. The flip side is that this makes Percocet very easy to abuse because it produces a euphoric effect that some users find very desirable.

Opioids are a class of drug that includes morphine, heroin, Demerol and Percocet as well as others. These drugs work to manage pain for many millions of people but for some they become their own trap. The National Institute on Drug Abuse estimated that in 1999 over 4 million people used prescription medicines for non-medical purposes. This means that legitimate prescriptions were diverted to the black market or street sales. It also means that individuals who perhaps once had a legitimate prescription have found themselves seeking the pleasurable effects from Percocet instead of just managing pain. Percocet addiction is characterized by both a physical dependence on the drug in conjunction with a psychological or emotional attachment to the drug.

Addicted individuals will take the drug for a different kind of pain control. If you find yourself taking more than the prescribed amount of Percocet before a particularly stressful event related to work, family or financial matters, this could be a warning sign of addiction. If you find that you cannot control the amount of Percocet you take despite suffering consequences that result from taking too many pills, this is also a warning sign. Other signs include seeking the exaggerated effects of taking too much Percocet such as sleepiness, calmness and lack of concentration. On the flip side if you feel anxious, have insomnia and diarrhea when you don't get enough Percocet, these are withdrawal symptoms that indicate at least a physical dependence on the drug. Percocet addiction is as serious as heroin addiction. They are both opioids and it is extremely helpful to have a doctors supervision when getting off the drug.

This is where a licensed rehabilitation clinic can be a lifesaver. Scripts has recently opened one of the only facilities exclusively devoted to helping our clients recover from prescription dependence. By bringing the best of the medical profession with licensed substance abuse counselors, Scripts has been successfully treating our clients for many years. We look forward to continuing this tradition with our prescription recovery program.

Situated on an exclusive Southern California beach, we have converted a beach location into a peaceful haven where our clients can focus on themselves far removed from the day to day crisis back home. We have several other facilities dedicated to serving the alcoholic and addict population so our prescription recovery clients take some relief in knowing that other residents of this program share in their common problem. This allows a lot of individual attention to the behaviors and consequences of prescription addiction and our group sessions are just that much more effective. We encourage you to call us today for more information. The call is free and confidential.
