OxyContin is an opioids that is very similar
to heroin except that OxyContin can be prescribed by
a doctor and doesn't need to be bought off the black
market. OxyContin, the brand name for oxycodone, has
been involved in controversy ever since being approved
for pain relief in 1995. The controversy surrounding
the OxyContin has centered on its growing abuse by people
who use the drug for its pleasurable effects rather
than pain relief. The use of OxyContin produces tolerance
in the body and brain of the individual and even those
with legitimate pain and prescriptions can easily get
caught up in a vicious cycle of dependency and addiction.
This site is for those who recognize that much of their
pain is now caused by the constant obsession and craving
for OxyContin.
The pain can be emotional and physical.
Tolerance creates a situation for some that even at
double, triple or more of the current prescription,
individuals may report that they still feel pain and
increase their dosage yet again. For others, increased
amounts of the drug are taken initially for extra events
such as the office Christmas party or family gathering
where the drug is used to induce feelings of pleasure
to cover the emotional pain or awkwardness. Soon a constant
supply of the drug is needed to keep up with the tolerance
levels because OxyContin is not a drug that is easily
stopped. Physical dependence means that withdrawal symptoms
are felt when the dosage is reduced or stopped.
Such withdrawal symptoms include:
flu-like
pains
bone
pain
diarrhea
vomiting
cold
flashes
sleeplessness
muscle
ache
These symptoms can be almost intolerable
at times and it is no wonder that many people are unable
to stop because they cannot face these withdrawal symptoms.
Remember that OxyContin is just synthetic morphine and
is as powerful as any street drug like heroin. It delivers
the same euphoric feelings to the brain that can hook
people into this reward system. The body associates
pleasure with OxyContin and the brain reinforces behaviors
that obtain the drug.
Making excuses for having multiple doctors
and rationalizing going to several different pharmacies
are just a few of the many defenses our brain tells
us to justify our dependence on OxyContin. Illegal activities
such as forging prescriptions, faking emergency room
visits and other secret behaviors can cause a cycle
of shame and guilt that can cause emotional pain. This
pain can often be worse than the physical pain.
Scripts specializes in
treating the emotional pain as well as the physical
pain associated with OxyContin. Our in house doctors
can ease the physical symptoms of withdrawal so that
you can focus on treating the feelings and behaviors
of addiction. Our counselors will construct a personalized
treatment plan to address your unique needs and you
will find support with other prescription drug users.
In fact, Scripts has recently dedicated a whole new
facility that specializes in prescription drug abuse
and we feel it is very special.
Located on an exclusive California beach,
this facility stretches over the ocean and provides
spectacular views from private rooms. Unlike any other
facility, the Scripts prescription drug abuse facility
focuses just on the needs of pill dependents. We have
other effective facilities for alcoholics and street
drug addicts but understand that those suffering from
dependencies on drugs like OxyContin have different
circumstances.
There is life and happiness without OxyContin.
